In line with the directives of Mr. Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, and under the supervision of Dr. Adel Abdel Azim, President of the Agricultural Research Center, Dr. Hend Abdel-Allah, Director of the Central Laboratory for the Analysis of Pesticide Residues and Heavy Metals in Food, announced the laboratory’s participation in the conference, which was held over three days under the patronage of Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation. The conference was attended by participants from more than 35 countries worldwide, reflecting the growing global interest in the beekeeping sector and its pivotal role in enhancing food security and sustainable development.
The conference activities were inaugurated by Dr. Alaa Azzouz, Head of the Agricultural Extension Sector, on behalf of the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation. He conveyed the Minister’s greetings to the participants and his wishes for the success of the conference and the achievement of its goals in supporting regional and international cooperation and the exchange of expertise. He emphasized that hosting this international event in Sharm El-Sheikh enhances Egypt’s position as a leading platform for dialogue on the future of agriculture and development.
Dr. Hend confirmed that the conference reflects the increasing global interest in the beekeeping sector and its products, noting that holding the conference under its current theme embodies the commitment of Arab countries to developing integrated strategies to promote sustainable agricultural production.
During the lecture she delivered on the second day of the conference, Dr. Abdel-Allah emphasized that the laboratory plays a major role in enhancing honey production and increasing its exports through the various testing methods it provides to honey producers and exporters. Among the most important analyses are tests for veterinary drugs, honey additives and quality, detection of commercial fraud methods, artificial colors, and sugars. In this context, the laboratory recently organized a training course in coordination with the Agricultural Extension Sector and in cooperation with the Trade Project affiliated with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). The course was organized by the laboratory’s Training Center for a group of honey producers from Gharbia Governorate.
The four-day training program combined theoretical aspects with practical applications inside the central laboratory’s facilities, which are equipped with the latest analytical technologies. This comes within the framework of raising the efficiency of honey producers and exporters in Egypt and increasing exports of this important product.
The laboratory provides its various services by leveraging its extensive technical expertise and international accreditation certificates. Dr. Abdel-Allah confirmed that this comes as part of the laboratory’s strategy to enhance food safety and combat commercial fraud, noting that cooperation with various entities working in the field of honey production and export highlights the importance of partnerships in raising the efficiency of Egyptian cadres and keeping pace with the latest scientific methods in analysis and quality control.
The conference also witnessed the participation of many international entities, most notably the Russian Beekeepers Union and the Chinese Beekeepers Producers Association, among other important organizations.
